People often ask why I chose the name White Belt.
It’s because I believe a white belt is more than a rank in martial arts.
It’s a reminder.
Every expert started as a beginner.
Every skill began with uncertainty.
Every accomplishment started with a first step.
Throughout my life, I’ve found myself putting on new white belts—in martial arts, new careers, technology, leadership, coaching, and now consulting.
Each time, I discovered the same lesson.
The hardest part wasn’t learning.
It was having the courage to begin.
Along the way, I learned that curiosity is more valuable than confidence.
Humility creates growth.
And the more I learn, the more I realize how much I still don’t know.
Not because I have all the answers.
Not to tell you how to live your life.
But to encourage you to lean into your curiosity, get out of your own way, and go have the experience.
Because life isn’t measured by what you already know.
It’s measured by your willingness to keep learning.
In martial arts, a white belt eventually becomes a black belt. Over years of training, that black belt begins to fade. Whether that’s simply wear or a deeper symbol, I’ve always loved what it represents: no matter how much we learn, we should never lose the curiosity of a beginner.
The journey comes full circle.
No matter how much we learn, we should never stop being curious enough to become a beginner again.
