I’ve been training in martial arts for over 30 years and started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2017. One of the unspoken truths about BJJ is that you end up collecting a lot of gis. I used to spend hours researching, reading reviews, and buying new gis—only for them to wear out after about a year.
In 2022, I decided to invest a bit more and try an Origin Gi, starting with one of their lower-priced models. Three years later, it still looks brand new. No fraying, no tears, no loose seams—nothing. The craftsmanship is incredible. The gi is also extremely comfortable and allows full range of movement.

One important note: Origin Gis do not shrink. I know, every brand says that, but Origin means it. I bought mine a bit large, hoping it would shrink down, and it never did—no matter how many hot washes and dries I put it through.
You can spend $100 on a gi that lasts a year, or spend a bit more and get one that lasts five years or longer. For me, it’s an easy choice. From now on, I’ll only be buying Origin Gis.
